Inventorying Certified Pre-Owned LEGO Sets
As a LEGO enthusiast, one of the joys of the hobby is acquiring and building new sets. However, LEGO sets can be quite expensive, especially the larger, more complex models. Fortunately, there is a thriving market for certified pre-owned LEGO sets that can provide significant savings for collectors.
We were not the first to use the term certified pre-owned, however we were the first to apply it to Lego! We 100% guarantee our certified pre-owned sets because we want them to be like new and give the builder an enjoyable experience when building them.
When purchasing a certified pre-owned LEGO set from Atlanta Brick Co, it's important to know we thoroughly inventory the contents to ensure you're getting everything you expect. Here are the steps, Atlanta Brick Co inventory specialists take to certify our pre-owned LEGO sets:
Inspect & Clean all Pieces
All pieces are inspected for damage and then cleaned. Individual pieces are cleaned by hand and larger groups of pieces are washed by our sorting team. Below is a link to our process on how we clean our LEGO®.
Sort the Pieces
We lay out all the pieces on a flat surface and sort them by color and part type. This makes it easier to ensure we have all the necessary pieces to complete the set.
Use the Inventory Checklist
Certified pre-owned LEGO® sets are checked against the official LEGO® inventory that details all the pieces included in the set. Our Inventory Specialists go through the list methodically, checking off each part as they find it. This is how we identify any missing pieces so they can replace any missing, broken or discolored pieces.
Check for Duplicates
While sorting the pieces, our inventory specialists keep an eye out for any duplicate parts. While having a few extra pieces can be helpful, an excessive number of duplicates may indicate that some parts are missing from the set.
Inspect the Condition
Condition of the pieces are very important, so the inventory specialists take a close look to inspect all of the LEGO pieces. Looking for any signs of wear, such as faded colors, scratches, worn stickers or broken parts. LEGO pieces are generally quite durable, but it's still important to ensure you're getting a set in good condition.
Packaging
Once we have all the pieces inventoried our specialist’s bag the pieces by color and likeness. Translucent and stickered pieces are put into their own bags to prevent scratching. All bags are put into the original box along with instructions. If we don’t have the set box, we have clear plastic boxes we package the set into. Then they are labeled with a certified pre-owned label and priced accordingly.
